Who Is UK Gritting?

UK Gritting is the dedicated winter maintenance division of the reputable Grounds Care Group (GCP) and is a trading name of the Grounds Care Group (UK) Ltd. Here at UK Gritting, we pride ourselves on only employing specialist gritting personnel, all of which have years of experience in delivering winter gritting and snow clearance to our clients across the UK.

What Services Does UK Gritting Provide?
The main service that we provide at UK Gritting is the gritting and snow clearing of commercial and industrial premises. We are also pleased to supply our clients with grit bins, salt and other necessary winter product to aid the removal of both ice and snow.
When Does Our Season Start?

Traditionally the winter season starts on 1st November and ends 31st March, although we all know that the UK can sometimes be susceptible to colder weather conditions outside of these dates. The UK weather is known to be unpredictable, because of that we offer our services from October to April. e.

How Do We Make Sure The Site Is Covered?

Using the latest technology, UK Gritting will create and agree with clients an in-depth gritting management plan. We use professional mapping software to show us all the areas that will require our expertise and service. Our experienced team will then service all hard landscaped areas within the boundaries of your premises.

Are The Council Responsible For Gritting Our Roads And Car Park?

Not necessarily, the council is only responsible for servicing specific public roads and footpaths. This means that all unadopted or privately owned roads/sites and carparks will not be gritted by the council. Therefore, you will need to grit the site to make it safe for both employees and visitors.

Are Contracts Required?

Here at UK Gritting, before any service is to be provided a contract is required. This enables all details of the site to be recorded on our system and will automatically be activated when a service is due when weather conditions are breached.

How Can I Be Kept Up To Date With Services Completed?

Here at UK Gritting, we are extremely proud of the technologically advanced systems we have in place, known as I View. This means that whenever a site is activated for service from a weather forecast, an email will automatically be sent to all pre-confirmed individuals. When the service has been completed on-site, a second email will be sent. At the end of each month you will receive a visit report, which you can access easily through the I View portal.

We pride ourselves on offering a transparent service, we work hard to ensure that advanced processes are in place to capture data. Each of our operators is given a smartphone which details the records and data for each site visit. This data is then uploaded onto the I View System and is available for a minimum of 7 years. Additionally, each vehicle is fitted with an HD GPS tracking system which records every second of movement by that vehicle during each visit. We can provide each service down to the minute.

What Happens If Snow Is Forecasted?

There’s no need to panic like the rest of the UK, we will be in touch with all our clients that could be affected by any forecasted snow event. This tends to be a few days in advance and becomes more geographically specific as the snow gets closer. The heads up we give offers our clients the chance to proactively plan what they would like to do with their staff and business. When the snow eventually arrives, then a quick phone call or email requesting snow clearance can be made and we will be on-site with snow clearance vehicles.

How Often Do You Service A Site?

UK Gritting will only service your site when it has become activated. By this, we mean when the weather and road temperature has been forecasted to be below 0 degrees celsius. Our technology and system will then automatically class that site as activated and the client will be emailed to notify them.

How Do We Forecast The Weather?

We are pleased to work closely with the Met Office to provide reliable daily forecasts for every site we service. Using our I View system our clients will have access to their daily weather forecast and will also be able to view the road surface temperatures on an hourly basis from 12 pm to 11 am the following day. When the road surface temperature has dropped below 0 degrees celsius, the site becomes activated.

Why Do You Use Road Surface Temperatures?

Here at UK Gritting, we only use and refer to road surface temperatures. We do this because the road surface temperature gives us a direct indication on the actual ground conditions and issues such as ice formation, ground warmth and sun intensity. We don’t refer to air temperature, this is because it is taken from 6 feet from the ground and doesn’t give us accurate ground conditions.

Can I Cancel The Service?

Although we never like to see a client go, UK Gritting does allow sites that have been activated through the weather forecast to be cancelled. However, by doing so it can reduce or affect the liability protection on the premises. If you still wish to cancel your gritting service, this can be done through the portal or via email.

Does UK Gritting Provide Full Liability Protection?
Yes, UK Gritting does provide our clients with full liability protection and will co-defend a claim in court if needed. UK Gritting are fully insured and have auditable processes and procedures to protect liability.
