How Gritting Works
Our road gritters contain a rock salt mix, which is spread evenly across roads and pavements. Salt works by mixing with the snow or ground water as it freezes and lowers the melting temperature of the snow and water, preventing ice from forming. Salt needs to be spread before the freezing temperature of the ground is reached, as if it’s spread on ice, it can’t work properly.
